Abstract
Preserved latex is separated into two layers by a creaming process, and the heavier layer, poor in rubber and rich in non-caoutchoue ingredients of the latex, is treated to obtain the whole of the solids without denaturing the proteins. The usual creaming agents are employed in such proportions and for such time as to obtain a lower layer having the desired proportion of rubber to non-rubber constituents. The creaming may be followed by centrifuging. Spray drying is the preferred method of removing the water. The rubber thus obtained may have a caoutchouc content as low as 20 per cent, and may be used alone or in admixture with ordinary crude rubber to modify its properties. This rubber has the same tensile strength as first grade rubber with less stretch, is fast curing, ages well, and has a high resistance to tearing. Examples of various mixes and their properties are given in the Specification. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also the separation of the latex into two portions by centrifuging alone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
