Abstract

A machine for treating floors comprises a rotary brush secured to a wheeled frame carrying a detachable receptacle for wax, filler, liquid dye, or the like, means being provided for heating the coating material and for delivering it, under predetermined flow conditions, on the floor in front of the brush. As shown, the receptacle 18 for wax contains an electric heating element 29, the supply of current to which is controlled by a switch 31. The receptacle is provided with pins 19, 21 for engagement, respectively, with T-shaped slots 16 and apertures 17 in the frame 10. The melted wax is adapted to flow from an orifice 35 under the control of a rotary plug connected by an arm 37 and a cable 39 to a handle 40. The extent to which the valve may open may be limited by means of a stop-bar 45 with an arm 45a projecting into the path of the arm 37 and carrying adjustably a screw 47 adapted to bear against a lug 46. In a modification the outlet pipe for the wax is straight and its outer end is adapted to be engaged by a spring-pressed disc-shaped valve, which is pivotally mounted and the position of which is controlled <PICT:0381351/III/1> <PICT:0381351/III/2> <PICT:0381351/III/3> by means of an operating handle. The walls of the receptacle 18 are bent inwardly at the top to prevent the melted wax from splashing over the sides, and a spring-pressed cover 24 is provided, which may be held in the fully-open position by the engagement of a notched handle 27 with a spring clip 28. The handle of the machine may be provided with a container 15 for liquid which is used when the waxing brush 12 is replaced by a scrubbing brush. The container is connected by a conduit to the centre of the brush.
