[Class 112.] Lock-stitching by shuttles.-A member, such as a pin, arranged in the path of the beak of an oscillating shuttle, engages the same resiliently after the needle thread has been engaged, to retain the loop in the same. In the construction shown, a shuttle 8 carrying a stationary bobbin rests on a seat 8a in a driver 7, relative to which rotation is prevented by abutting the bevelled ends of an upstanding circular rib 9 on the carrier against the outer annular part of the shuttle, space being provided for the passage of the thread. The driver 7 is oscillated by a pinion 4 in mesh with a toothed segment 5 carried by a rocking lever 6. The outer surface 15 of the shuttle 8 moves in a recess 16 in a supporting casing 17 part of the recess being of greater diameter for the passage of the thread. A pin 19 located on the casing 17 in front of the end of the enlarged part of the recess 16 extends towards the shuttle 8 into a groove 14 formed on the underside of the shuttle and of increasing depth towards the hook 13, and is pressed upwards by a spring 23 to engage the groove 14 and retain the thread. Bores 30 in a cover 24 engaged by pins 31 on the casing 17 locate a detachable cover in position. It is locked by turnscrews 26 on the casing, which are engaged in slots or bores 27 in the cover and turned slightly to place their segmental heads across the slots 27.
