380,275. Mechanical presses. HAVERBECK, E., 40, Bartenbacherstrasse, G÷ppingen, Wurtemberg, Germany. Oct. 16, 1931, No. 28820. Convention date, Feb. 20. [Class 87 (ii).] A braking device for automatically checking the drive of a press slide when it reaches its upper point, and particularly applicable to friction-driven screw presses comprises a friction disc c splined to the screw a and located between friction surfaces f which are normally separated by weak springs g but which may be closed on to the disc c when the slide o reaches its upper point. The upper friction surface carries strong springs i mounted in housings h which are freely slidable within a housing e carried by the slide, and closure of the friction surfaces f on to the brake disc c is effected by contact of the housings h with a fixed part q of the press. The springs i may be actuated by cams &c.
