Abstract
379,961. Vulcanizing boots. WALTHER & CO. KOMM.-GES., H., Oberrad, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Jan. 13, 1932, No. 1073. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1931.. [Class 70.] In apparatus for vulcanizing shoe soles comprising a cushion inflated by constantly applied heated pressure fluid, a constant slow discharge of the pressure fluid takes place to maintain a steady pressure and temperature in the apparatus. A shaft 3, Fig. 1, in standards 1, 2, carries a series of radial brackets 4 on each of which is mounted an insulated pan 9 with steam &c. inlet 15 and outlet 16 and a flexible cover 12. The pressure fluid is controlled by a distributer, Figs. 3, 5 and 6, consisting of an outer member 30 rotating with the shaft 3 and connected to each vulcanizing pan by pipes 17, 18, and an inner member 24 fixed to the standard 1, with inlet and outlet channels, and also one connected to a pressure-controlling valve. The inlet channel a terminates in a groove all, Fig. 6, in communication with holes 28 in the member 30, and the pipes 17. The pressure cut-off 42 corresponds in position with the exhaust port b<1>, Fig. 5, section C, D of Fig. 3 : a slight overlap of groove all and port b<1> allows a blow-through of heating fluid just before a finished shoe is removed and a new one is placed in position. The channel c terminates in groove c<11> which allows of a slow discharge through an adjustable valve. In operation, a shoe is placed on the uppermost pan, and is clamped by the raising of a hand- or pedal-operated rod 57, Fig. 1, which bears on a roller 53 on a slide 47, and presses a stirrup 38 on to the shoe. The slide 47 is held in the raised position by a spring-controlled bellcrank lever 49. The apparatus is rotated one step, pressure fluid enters the pan, and another pan is brought into position for the reception of another shoe. During vulcanization, pressure and temperature are maintained constant by the discharge of heating fluid through the groove c<11>, and an adjustable valve, and admission of fresh fluid through the groove all. Just before completion of a revolution of the apparatus, each pan is in communication with the inlet all, Fig. 6, and outlet b<1>, Fig. 5, so that any condensed water &c. is blown out. At the same time a cam on the bell crank 49, Fig. 1, comes into contact with a roll 54 on the frame to withdraw the lever from engagement with the slide 47, and to allow a spring 50 to raise the stirrup 38 clear of the vulcanized shoe.
