[Class 40 (iii).] Relates to means for transmitting and reproducing one-dimensional images of the kind described in Specification 328,286, [Class 40 (iii), Telegraphs, Electric]. Elementary strips 8, 9, 10 of an object 1, Fig. 1, are spread into an effectively one-dimensional image 7 by an optical system as described in that Specification or modified so that adjacent strips on the object are not contiguous in the one-dimensional image, Fig. 4. The onedimensional image 7, Fig. 5, is oscillated by a vibrating mirror 24 between positions 23, 26 on a screen 25 with a plurality of apertures 27 .. 30, each of which is in front of a sensitive cell connected to a separate transmission channel so that separate portions of the image are simultaneously scanned. In a modification, the mirror has a maximum swing covering a quarter of the length of the image, so that each quarter of the image is scanned by one cell only. Alternatively the image is swung from a position in front of one set of cells to a position in front of another set of cells, and the corresponding cells of each set are connected in parallel, Fig. 6 (not shown). The last cell of the second set may be omitted, Fig. 7 (not shown). For colour reproduction each aperture 42, Fig. 8, may be a slit divided into three parts, each of which transmits light of a different colour to an appropriate sensitive cell.
