Abstract
369,311. Television. PATTINSON, R. J., 5, Woodland Grove, Newton Road, Leeds. Jan. 13,1931, No. 1181. [Class 40 (iii).] In a television system in which the picture to be transmitted or reproduced is divided into a number of sections which are scanned simultaneously, the scanning device comprises s corresponding number of sets of apertures in an endless travelling band or in the flange of a rotating disc. At the transmitting station, Fig. 2, the picture (not shown) is scanned by sets of apertures 31 .. 36 in sections 21 .. 26 of the flange a of a rotating disc b. The light variations are applied to photo-electric cells 11 .. 16 mounted in light-tight compartments, and connected to oscillators 51 .. 56 generating mutually different frequencies, and the picture currents are transmitted in the form of a complex wave. At the receiving station, Fig. 3, the complex wave is separated by tuned circuits 101 .. 106 into components which are applied to corresponding glow-discharge lamps 91 . . 96, co-operating with sets of apertures 71 . . 76 in the flange of a synchronously rotated disc b to reproduce the sections simultaneously on a ground-glass screen e. For colour television, each of the cells 11 .. 16 is replaced by three cells sensitive to primary colours and the number of oscillators generating different frequencies is triplicated. At the receiving end, each lamp is replaced by three lamps associated with corresponding. tuned circuits and reproducing the corresponding colours. Signals of sound frequencies may be simultaneously transmitted on a separate carrier frequency, and separated out at the receiver as in the case of the picture currents of the different picture sections.
