Abstract

378,540. Powder boxes. COLLINS, C. E., 48, Hockley Hill, Birmingham. May 18, 1931, No. 14595. [Class 18.] A powder box, particularly for toilet powder, includes a perforated member to cover the powder, a shutter to obturate the perforations, and a flap-like member to raise and eject the powder through the perforations. In an embodiment, a tray-like cover member 1 with a depending flange is held in the body portion of the box by snap, &c. means 7. The shutter 11 is of disc form and rotates underneath the cover 1, and a portion of the shutter is bent obliquely downwards to form a flap 16 for raising and ejecting powder through a compact, circular group of perforations (not shown) lying between the outer edge of the cover and a non-circular pin 12 on which the shutter rotates. The flap 16 is preferably curved ; and the pin 12 carries an operating handle 13 which may be extended to constitute a further member for obturating the perforations and for pushing powder delivered through the perforations on to an unperforated part of the cover. Portions of the edges of the perforations in the cover are bent downwardly to assist in projecting the powder through the perforations. A mirror 5 may be incorporated in the hinged lid of the box. The box is of circular or other shape. According to the Provisional Specification, the shutter may have a rectilinear movement.
