Abstract
378,048. Electromagnetic relays. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC & MANUFACTURING CO., East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Goldsborough, S. L.; 372, Park Avenue, East Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A.) May 1, 1931, No. 15273/32. Convention date, May 1, 1930. Divided on 377,975. [Class 38 (v).] A time - element relay which may be employed in the protective arrangement described in Specification 377,975 comprises a stator member consisting of an electromagnet 83 the core 80 of which has divided polepieces 80 fitted with shading rings 82, and an axially and rotatably movable motor armature 85 wound as a squirrel-cage rotor. On energization of the stator armature the solenoid action on the armature causes it to rise upwardly in its bearings and bring a gear wheel 87<1> on the armature shaft into engagement with a reduction gear 94. The latter is secured to a shaft 92 on which is adjustably clamped a contact-carrying arm 91 so that the latter is driven by the armature against a spring 89 until, on the expiry of a predetermined time interval, the fixed and movable contacts 23 are brought into engagement to complete a controlled circuit. On deenergization of the stator member the parts automatically resume the positions shown, the armature falling to disengage the gears 87<1>, 94 and the contact arm returning under the action of a spring 89 until a pin 88 on the gear 94 is arrested by a stop 90. The time-element of the relay may be varied by loosening the screw 93 and adjusting the contact-carrying arm 91 to a different angular position on the shaft 92, the gear wheel 94 bearing a scale to indicate various time-element values.
