Abstract

377,382. Electric incandescent lamps. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. June 16, 1931, No. 17463. Convention date, June 26, 1930. [Class 39 (ii).] In a method of directing and straightening leading-in wires secured to electric lamps or discharge tubes, the wire is led over two relatively movable points of support between which it is straightened during such movement. The leading-in wires 11, Fig. 6, from the lamp or discharge tube 10 are brought over a stationary member or support 9 adjacent thereto and are gripped lightly by pivoted members 1 which are then retracted in a horizontal direction to impart upon the wire a light pull which is augmented towards the end of the movement, the additional pull serving to overcome, the tendency of the wires to spring back when released. The wires 11, which emerge from the lamp bulb 10 in an arbitrary manner, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 6, are engaged by the grippers 1 which, at this stage, act as wire-seekers and rotate in a clockwise direction through an angle to bring the wires 11 against stops 2, Figs. 4 and 6, consisting of plates mounted upon a sleeve 24 which is carried upon a sleeve 8. The wires are pushed into grooves at the end of the sleeve 8 and held therein by the grippers 1 while the sleeves 8, 20 are moved axially by a fork 21 engaging a bush 18 surrounding them. During this movement through a distance S the ends of the angle-levers 1 bear upon plungers 3 and move them inwardly against the pressure of light helical springs 13 surrounding their inner ends within a housing 4. This movement continues until a collar 12 secured on each of the plungers 3 bears upon the end of a body 14 which is restrained by a helical spring 15, whereupon the levers 1 are caused to swing and an increased pull is transmitted to the wires 11 just before they are released.
