Abstract
376,312. Carburetting apparatus for internal-combustion engines. SALE, B., Hall Green, Tean, Stoke-on-Trent. April 8, 1931, No. 10405. [Class 7 (iii).]. An automatic apparatus for minimizing and extinguishing fires in vehicles using internalcombustion engines, comprises in combination means for cutting off the fuel supply and the ignition, means for withdrawing the fuel already in the induction system, and means for releasing extinguishing materials for spraying the engine. As shown, cylinders M, L are provided, a vacuum being maintained in the cylinder M, and cylinder L being charged with extinguishing liquid. A rotary cock Y is held by a wire G against the action of a spring K, so that passages B, C in it connect the fuel pipe A with the induction system D, E. The wire G is retained by a fusible plug F. When the latter melts, the cock rotates, moving the passage B away from pipe A and bringing passages Q, C into communication with the cylinder M. Fuel already in the induction system is thereupon sucked into the cylinder M. Simultaneously, a passage P in the cock connects the cylinder L to spray pipes R, S, and the operating arm H of the cock closes a switch J to cut out the ignition. The wire G may also be released, in the event of an accident to the vehicle, by a slide W<1> operated by a lever X arranged in an exposed position on the vehicle.
