Abstract

376,308. Reinforced concrete ; girders ; columns. FREYSSINET, E., 28, Rue St-James, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. April 8, 1931, No. 10374. Convention date, April 8, 1930. [Class 20 (iv).] Reinforced concrete elements are joined by joining their reinforcements a, b by additional metal members a<1>, b<1>, f, f<1>, g, t<1> assembled at the ends of the reinforcements, and if necessary with each other, by elongated welds S, and then pouring concrete into the gap between the elements. The additional members mav take the form of rods a<1>, Figs. 2 and 12 (not shown), or a<1>, b<1>, Fig. 8a. When hard steel reinforcements are used, the additional members, Fig. 8a, may be of mild steel secured in advance to the members and annealed. Plates t<1> may be used, Figs. 6, 10, 11, 12 (not shown), and 5; or bent sheet-metal plates g, Figs. 4, 13, 14, 15 (not shown), and 16a ; f, Fig. 18a ; and f<1>, Figs. 19a and 20. In the form shown in Fig. 18a, the hoops f surround the reinforcement and project but little from the concrete so as to transmit shearing stresses and reduce the width of the concrete joint. When metal plates are used, the welds S may be formed on the transverse edges thereof. A beam or floor B, Fig. 19a, may be united to a column or wall A by sheet elements f<1> which are welded to the reinforcing bars of the member B and to reinforcements a anchored by hooks a<3> in the element A. The sheet elements may either overlap or be joined by an additional element f<2> welded to the element f<1> of A. The edges of the joint may be serrated at r to transmit shearing stress to the concrete filling. In Fig. 20, a column A is joined to three beams B<1>, B<2>, B<3> at the same height, the three pairs of elements f<1> being anchored to each other and to the column by hooked members a2. Hoops q, Fig. 21, may be welded near the ends of the reinforcements a, b to keep these in position during transit. The reinforcements are positioned during moulding by perforations in the ends of the mould. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes elements joined by joining the reinforcements themselves by elongated welds and filling the gap between the elements with concrete. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
