[Class 53.] In the production of galvanic cells, a rigid conveying means, serving, if desired, as inserting device, for example a revolving plate, takes up at one place an empty zinc container, brings it under a filling pump delivering electrolyte and, on further advancement, under a die which cuts a centring star out of a strip of material and inserts it in a retaining device over the zinc container, and, on yet further advancement, a carbon element is brought over the centring star, whereupon a press forces rod and star into the container, and the cell is passed to a heating bath. In the form shown, a switch star 16 passes zinc containers a from a transport band 13 to a revolving plate 1, where they rest on a guideway 1<1>. The plate brings the cans under the filling pump 2, then under a die which stamps out a centring star c and places it in a recess in the rotating disc 5. A carbon element from the conveyer 17 is supplied and, in several stages, pressed into the can, the guide way 1<1> being raised over this stretch so that the upper edge of the can is just below the disc 5, and the centring star is not displaced on entering the can. The finished cell g is now moved down an inclined plane by means of switch stars 21, 22 to the cooking bath, where it is held by Z-shaped guiding members driven by a chain 28 and of such a length that the distance D is equal to the distance E, whereby a smooth transference is ensured, and the removal of the cooked cell is effected in the corresponding manner.
