Abstract
375,463. Weighing-apparatus fitted to cigarette-making machines. MOLINS, W. E., BEST, C., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd., 2, Evelyn Street, Deptford, London. April 13, 1931, No. 10798. [Class 143.] In means whereby the feed of tobacco to a cigarette-making machine is automatically varied by mechanism connected to a weighing- apparatus arranged to receive a definite number of cigarettes automatically selected at intervals from the output of the machine, the finished cigarettes are delivered alternately on to two parts 3a, 3b of a conveyer 3 by deflectors 17, 19, and means are provided whereby the flap 19 is raised at intervals about its pivot 19a from the dotted to the full-line position in Fig. 3, so that, for example, fifty cigarettes are lifted by a conveyer chain 14 up a slope 20 to a scalepan 6. The weight is indicated at 8, 9, and adjusts a member 11 engaged by a feeler 10, which is connected to the feed control in the manner described in Specification 327,098, [Class 130, Tobacco]. The flap 19 is raised by linkwork 29, 31, 32 connecting the pivot 19a to a lever 28, 26, between which and a member 23 oscillated by a connecting-rod 22, a lever 27 is inserted at the desired intervals of weighing. Before weighing is to commence, the lever 27 is above the member 23, which therefore oscillates without affecting the lever 26 and the flap 19. At the required time, however, the lever 27 is pressed by a spring down a step on a rotating face-cam 34, so as to become effective between the members 23, 26, raising the flap 19. The lever 27, and therefore the flap, is held in the position to which it is moved by the member 23, by a spring catch 40. After fifty cigarettes have been delivered into the scale-pan, the lever 27 is depressed into a second step on the cam 34, releasing the flap, and is then swung to the right about a pivot 42 by a cam 36 engaging an arm 43. The lever 27 is then beneath a pawl 46, but is raised into engagement therewith by another face-cam 35. When the desired interval of time has passed for another weighing, the pawl 46 is disengaged by a cam 44. This cam is formed with groups of projections at different heights, so that by adjusting the cam axially by means of a screw 48, the time interval between successive weighings can be altered. The device may be put out of action by turning a knob 52 which rotates a cam 54 to move the cam 44 out of the range of the pawl 46. After each weighing operation, the scale-pan is tilted to empty the cigarettes on to the conveyer 3, by an arm 13, Fig. 1, connected to an arm 50, Fig. 2, actuated by a cam 49. In a modification, the chain conveyer 14 is replaced by rotating pocketed discs, and the flap 19 is raised by a cam formed as a fusee or screw-thread. Instead of being collected from the cutting-mechanism, the batches of cigarettes to be weighed may be collected later from the conveyer 3 ; or they may continue in their straight path from the continuousrod cutting-mechanism instead of being deflected on to the delivery belt.
