Abstract
375,006. Window blinds. MATRER & PLATT, Ltd. and INCLEDON, C. S. L., Park Works, Manchester. April 15, 1931, No. 11134. [Class 52 (v).] A roller shutter is operated by an electric motor to which it is coupled by a frictional transmission element which is adapted to slip when the shutter reaches the end of its travel in either direction. As shown, the shaft b of an electric motor a is coupled with a shaft j by friction discs e, i, mounted one on each shaft. The shaft j is connected through worm gearing k, or the like, to the shutter. To the shaft b is secured the part c of a dog clutch, the tapered teeth d of which mesh with similar teeth on an element f formed integral with the disc e. The latter is normally pressed into firm contact with the disc i by a spring g one end of which bears against a collar h secured to the shaft b. The increased resistance offered to the disc e by the disc i, when the shutter reaches the end of its travel, causes relative axial movement between the elements of the dog clutch. This movement separates the discs and thereby reduces the power absorbed by the motor. In a modification, the dog clutch and the elements associated therewith are arranged on the shaft j.
