Abstract

374,879. Photographic flash-lamps. BENJAMIN ELECTRIC, Ltd. and KAVANAGH, L. R., Brantwood Works, Tariff Road, Tottenham, London. March 12, 1931, No. 7567. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (i).] A holder for a photographic flash lamp of the type containing oxidizable material ignited by an electrically heated filament comprises a lamp socket 2 secured to a moulded casing 3 formed with a handle portion 10 enclosing a dry battery 11. The casing 3 is made in two halves secured by screws and is provided with a screw cap 9. The circuit through the flash lamp is made by operating a finger lever 12 to move a contact 14 having a spring portion 16 engaging the centre pole of the battery 11 into engagement with a contact 15 engaged by the centre contact of the flash lamp, the return circuit being made from the socket 2 through a screw 19 and a metal strip 18 to the other pole of the battery. A two-pin plug 21 may be inserted in the casing to enable the lamp to be operated from a distant control switch or to fire other flash lamps, one pin of the plug engaging the contact 15 and the other an extension 22 of the contact 14. A test lamp 23 to indicate whether the filament of the flash lamp is intact is mounted in a holder 24 which may be pressed against the resistance of a spring plunger 27 to complete a circuit from the battery through the flash lamp filament and test lamp. The combined resistance is sufficient to make the test lamp glow but insufficient to cause the flash lamp filament to become incandescent. In a modification the casing is formed with a horizontal battery compartment and a downwardly projecting handle containing the switch mechanism. The casing may be provided with a screw socket by which it may be mounted on a tripod. Specification 370,142 is disclaimed.
