Abstract

374,613. Variable-speed belt gearing. DRONSFIELD, J., Atlas Works, Oldham. May 29, 1931, No. 15707. [Class 80 (ii).] Relates to an automatic belt or like shifter for use in apparatus for grinding or trueing leather-covered or other rollers used in textile and other trades, for example as described in Specifications 7095/01 and 249,299, [both in Class 60, Grinding or abrading &c.], in which the traverse of a grinder at different speeds in each direction is required. The grinder at each end of its travel moves a rod b axially, the rod carrying stops b<2>, b3 which move one, for example a<4>, of a pair of loose brackets a<4>, a<5>, slidable on the rod b and on a rod a3 moving with a rod a which carries the belt-forks a<1>. The bracket a<5> is temporarily held by a pawl e so that a spring lying between the brackets is compressed. On further movement of the bracket a4 its inclined edge a<4x> engages an incline on the pawl e and the bracket a<5> is released and is thrust forward rapidly by the spring bearing upon stirrups a<2> secured to the rods a, a<3> and thus moving the belt on to the pulley step f<1>. In the opposite direction of motion of the grinder, the bracket a<4> is temporarily held by a second pawl e<1> which is similarly released to allow the spring to thrust the belt on to the pulley step f<2>.
