373,977. Hydraulic shock - absorbers. GAUTHIER, R., 25, Avenue de la Laiterie, Cointe, Liege, Belgium. Nov. 27, 1930, No. 35744. Convention date, June 19. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 108 (iii).] Shock absorbers are associated with apparatus which prevents sagging of the axle spring when a hydraulic lifting jack 1 on a vehicle raises a wheel off the ground, the fluid admitted under pressure to the jack being arranged to act simultaneously upon an auxiliary piston 13 which locks or holds a mechanical connection between the axle and'the frame, adapted normally to operate the hydraulic shock absorber. The axle 19 is connected by a link 20 to an arm 18 of an angle lever on a shaft 17 pivoted in the frame, the other arm 16 being connected by a link 30 to a rod 26 carrying a pair of pistons 24, 25 operating in a cylinder 11 with an intermediate partition 21, a double tapered sleeve 27, 28 on the rod co-operating with the aperture 22 in the partition to vary the size of the throttling orifice. The supply of oil in the space between the pistons may be maintained from a chamber 33 with a spring-pressed plunger 34, a filling plug 40 being provided on the cylinder. Fluid admitted to the jack through a passage 38 also passes through a port 39 andacts on the piston 13 which is thereby forced into engagement with a boss 15 on the lever arm 16 to take the weight of the axle as the frame is lifted.
