Abstract

373,645. Lubricating refrigerating- machines. LIPMAN PATENTS CORPORATION, 2717, North Ashland Avenue, Chicago, U.S.A. Feb. 14, 1931, No. 4762. Convention date, Feb. 14, 1930. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] The electric driving motor 48, Fig. 1, and compressor 51 of a refrigerating machine are enclosed in a sealed casing 16 and are cooled by the lubricant, which is circulated through an external cooling coil &c. connected to the interior of the casing. A fixed tubular sleeve 36 forms journals for the compresser shaft 49 and the annular shaft 47 of the motor rotor 48, which have a driving connection at the top. The compresser rotor has radially sliding vanes 57, Fig. 11. The base 26 is formed with a central oil well 28 from which the oil flows through passages 72, Figs. 4 and 8a, to an arcuate port 73 in the baseplate of the compresser. This port communicates with the space behind the sliding vanes during the rotation of the compresser, and the oil passes thereto and is then delivered through ports 76, 77 to a passage 78 in the shaft. In order to prevent knocking &c. a quantity of gas from the casing is admitted through a breather pipe 75 to the oil passage 73. From the shaft passage 78 the oil flows to helical channels 83, 88, Fig. 1, around the compresser shaft and the sleeve 36 and finally issues through openings 92 at the top of the shaft. A deflector plate 93 secured on the shaft directs the oil against a cover 94 whence it flows down the motor windings to an annular well 31 in the base. The oil flows from this well under the compression pressure through an external radiator or cooler and back to the central well 28. The wall of the compresser cylinder is supplied with oil from the outer well 31 through an exchangeable small nozzle 68, Fig. 8, and passage 67.
