[Class 28 (i).] A toasting - appliance of the kind comprising a pair of inverted U-members 1, 2 pivoted together at 5 and a spring handle connected to the members 1, 2 by apertured plates 13 is provided with a U- or V-like handle 9 formed of spring wire and having its end parts 11 flattened. The members 1, 2 constitute jaws between which an article to be toasted may be held, the arrangement being such that normally the arms of the handle tend to separate and close the gripping jaws while to open the jaws the handle must be compressed. The wire forming the handle may have a more or less circular loop 10 intermediate its ends and the loop may have one or more flattened surfaces. The arms of the handle near the parts 11 may be cranked inwardly. The parts 3, 4 of the members 1, 2 on either side of the pivot 5 may be laterally offset from one another and the gripping jaws may be provided with serrations or teeth 7 on the lower parts of the inner edges. As shown in the Figure the plates 13 may be pivotally connected to the handle and means may be provided for securing the gripping jaws in such a position that the article to be toasted may be held horizontally, e.g. one of the rivets 12 about which the handle 9 is pivoted to the plates 13 may be replaced by a bolt and wing nut or a projection may be provided on one or both of the plates 13 and adapted to engage in one or more holes, depressions, or projections in the handle. Alternatively, the plates 13 may be riveted tightly to the arms of the handle.
