Abstract
371,779. Cleaning travelling grates. DœRRWERKE AKT.-GES., Ratingen, Germany. Nov. 30, 1931, No. 33120. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 51 (i).] In a grate bar cleaning device for travelling grates of the kind in which striking devices operated by weights are arranged at the front of the grate and are released automatically by the grate members, the striking devices are adapted to give each bar a blow in the direction of its length at different times at each end of the bar and are also adapted to scrape the operative face of each bar. As shown in Fig. 1, cleaning bars 4, 5 are arranged transversely to the front end of the grate upon pairs of levers 2, 3 secured to a shaft 1 mounted to turn in bearings and carrying also a weighted lever 6. The levers 3 have a limited amount of play on the shaft and springs 9 are attached to the levers 3 and bearing plates for the shaft 1. As the grate bars move from the lower to the upper run, the bars 4, 5 are lifted, the bars 4 subsequently scraping the fuel surfaces of one row of grate bars and then striking the ends of the next row while the levers 5 strike the opposite ends of the bars as they enter the upper run of the grate.
