Abstract

371,409. Wrapping-machines. ROSE, A. G. and ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH), Ltd., Albion Works, Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. Jan. 22, 1931, No. 2118. [Class 94 (i).] In wrapping-machines in which a wrapper, which has been waxed or similarly treated, is folded about an article so as to present a longitudinal seam such as 33, Fig. 2, means are provided for heating the seam and securing it in a closed position as shown in Fig. 3. As shown, the wrapper is folded about the article in pockets 11, Fig. 4, in a mould wheel 10, the longitudinal seam 13 being outermost and being temporarily held in position by a guide 28. During a period of rest, an electrically heated element 16, mounted on a two-armed lever 17, is caused to contact with the seam. At the next period of rest a pressing member 24 secures the seam in its closed position. The projecting ends of the wrapper may be folded or twisted at any stage in the operations. In a modification, a heating element may oscillate between its forward position and a heating position over a gas burner.
