Abstract
370,629. Massage apparatus. SCHNEIDINGER, 1'11., 180, Lichtenfeldgasse, Mondsee, Austria. March 20, 1931, No. 8634. Convention date, March 22, 1930. [Class 81 (ii).] Apparatus for vibratory and rolling massage comprising a beater with a magnetic hammer break system, operated by direct or alternating current, said beater acting indirectly, i.e. through the intermediary of the massage rollers,. upon the skin, is characterized by the provision between the beater i, p, which is fitted with an adjustable contact spring m for regulating the vibrations when direct current is used, and the element transmitting the vibrations to the skin, and attached to either, of a spring q or l<1> so chosen that when alternating current is used the magnetic hammer break is in synchronism with the oscillations of the current. Two massage wheels d are mounted in a U-shaped frame c to which is secured the vibrator b comprising a magnet frame e, carrying iron cores f wound with coils g, h, and an armature i, preferably of soft iron, having a contact spring m secured thereto and separated by an insulating layer n. The armature extends through the frame c and has a head p, transmitting its vibrations through a spring q with a striker head ql fixed to the armature and resting on the head r of a sleeve g<1> provided on the axle s of the wheels d. The contact spring m may be a blade, spiral, or helical spring, in which latter case it may be sunk in the armature and exchangeable. A contact screw u contacting with the spring m is adjustable within a bracket v and secured by a spring x. When direct current is used, the periodicity of the vibrations can be varied by adjusting the spring m. With alternating current, the vibrations of the hammer adapt themselves to the frequency of the current, so that adjustment of the spring m only regulates the hardness and not the frequency of the massage. The current supply leads entering through an opening in the end of the casing a are supported by a wire c<1> and are connected to terminals k, l. The coil h mav be connected to one terminal k and to the contact spring m, the coil g to the terminal l and the screw u or bracket v. The massage wheels d are pressed inwardly by springs f<1> on the sleeve g<1>. The wheels have rubber tyres i<1> with depressions h<1>. In Fig. 6, an impact core k<1>, resiliently mounted in the bent axle s on a spiral spring l<1> and movable therein, replaces the transmission spring q. The massage wheels are supported by circular pressed steel springs. A modified form of contact screw u is shown in Fig. 7, in which a locking spring o<1> is provided with a projection p<1> engaging teeth q<1> beneath the head of the screw.
