Abstract

370,052. Hopper and tank wagons. UDDENBERG, C. E., 22, Hantverkaregatan, Stockholm. Dec. 30, 1930, No. 26097/31. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1929. Divided on 370,034. [Class 103 (iv).] In a pneumatic conveying system in which pulverized or liquid material is transferred from one container H to another &c. through a pipe D by suction, atmospheric air is admitted to the material near the apertures through which it is sucked into the pipe. The material falls on to a perforated plate B in a box A which is inserted between two sections of pipe, and communicates with the atmosphere by means of pipes E. Protective covers G are placed over the pipes E, and the apertures L at the base of these covers are shielded by covers J. The apertures a in the plate B may be wholly or partly closed by a valve which opens when the desired pressure exists in the pipe D, and are protected by covers M, Q. The container H, or a series of containers, may be mounted on wheels and used for carrying a supply of pulverized coal for a locomotive, the usual tender being used for the storage only of water. The conduit which supplies air or steam to the nozzle b, Fig. 7, passes through the combustion chamber, or the walls thereof, and preferably has a zig-zag or helical form. Steam heated to at least 300‹. C. is stated to be the best injecting medium. The nozzle b is rotatably mounted on the conduit and has laterally directed outlets which cause the issuing steam or air to keep it in motion. The end of the pipe D which opens into the combustion chamber is surrounded by a tube f which communicates with the atmosphere through a conduit h and a passage in the vault or walls of the furnace. The feeding device may be used for furnaces on steam wagons and ships, or for stationary furnaces. The suction in the pipe D may be varied by a valve d. A conduit c for compressed air for cleaning purposes is connected to the pipe D between the valve d and the box A.
