Abstract

369,645. Cathode-ray tubes. BRAD. FER, R., 17, Chaussee de Maubeuge, Mons, Belgium. Nov. 13, 1930, No. 34247. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] Transitory phenomena of very short duration, such as moving electric waves, are inscribed relatively to an independent recording trace of a cathode beam having a closed circuit. In the cathode-ray oscillograph shown, the cathode beam passes through a rotating magnetic field generated by two pairs of coils 10, 11 fed by two-phase currents in quadrature, and is thereby caused to describe a cone and form a circular trace on a photographic plate 4. The potential difference to be recorded is applied between the elements 14, 15 of a conical condenser between which the ray passes. Deflection of the ray due to the potential to be examined therefore takes place radially. The pairs of coils 10, 11 may be replaced by pairs of plates producing a rotating electric field. The rotating field may alternatively be produced by three-phase currents. An electromagnetically-controlled plate 6 enables the ray to be shut off from the plate 4 when desired.
