[Class 100 (ii).] Addressing and like machines; copying documents.-In a statistical machine for the production on fresh record cards or strips of the written matter carried by statistical record cards or strips, the printing is made at will from desired sections only of the successive statistical cards or strips. Each statistical card, which is perforated according to the Tauschek system, has on it written matter which is also carried, but reversed, on the reverse side of the card, this being obtained by the use of hectographic carbon paper at the back of the card when the matter is being typed on the front. After a card has passed from the magazine 1 and been read by the feelers 4 the back of the card is moistened by rollers 7, 8 from a liquid tank 8. Thereafter, a cam 16 passes a roller 10 down on to a roller 11 so that the hectographic ink prints the written matter on to a record strip 17. Rollers 10, 11 are mounted in slotted bearings, being raised to the top of their slots by springs. The slot for roller 10 is, however, larger than that for roller 11 so that normally these rollers, which are constantly rotated, do not engage one another to feed the strip 17 and the statistical. card. Autographic writing may be effected at table 19. By dividing the roller 10 into several parts 10a, 10b, 10c, Fig. 11, under the independent control of cams 16a, 16b, 16c written matter on different parts of the cards may be printed on independent record strips 17a, 17b, 17c. Preferably these cams 16a, 16b, 16c are clutched independently to shaft 27 for rotation, by clutches 26a, 26b, 26c actuated by magnets 25a, 25b, 25c and card brushes 28a, 28b, 28c.
