Abstract
368,996. Making compound and other tubes. OTTO, P., 78, Cheruskerstrasse, Oberkassel, Diisseldorf, Germany. March 19, 1931, No. 8471. [Classes 83 (i), 83 (ii), and 83 (iv).] Casting ; castings; pipe - end closing.-Tubes are formed by casting a hollow billet h in a centrifugal drum l, closing up or flanging the end by forcing the end k of the mould inwards or by subsequent hammering or pressing and then reducing to size by placing it on a hollow mandrel and forcing or pulling it through a series of ring dies g and/or rolls with round or oval passes. To line or coat the tubes with corrosion proof metals, such metals, e.g. nickel, chromium, tin, or zinc in excess is added before casting and the centrifugal action forms a layer of, e.g. nickel on the outside or the lighter aluminium &c. on the inside of the alloy tube. The mandrel may be of carbon steel or suitable alloy.
