367,888. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. LUCAS, Ltd., J. and SIMPSON, R., Great King Street, Birmingham. Nov. 27, 1930, No. 35696. [Class 108 (iii).] In hydraulic shock-absorbers of the oscillating type in which movement away from a central position is allowed freely while return movements are hydraulically resisted, passages leading to two one-way valves acting in opposite directions are closed alternately when an operating member moves on either side of its central position. Figs. 3 and 4 show two sections at different points perpendicular to the axis. The operating spindle carries a movable vane b and bears in a concave recess in the fixed abutment d. The oppositely acting ball valves g allow liquid to flow freely whenever the ends of their conduits h, i are uncovered by slots k, j in the operating spindle. During the return of the spindle to its central position, liquid can only pass from one side of the vane to the other through a throttling orifice, not shown, controlled from the outside of the apparatus by a regulating valve.
