Abstract
366,159. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. ETABLISSEMENTS M. HOUDAILLE, 50, Rue Raspail, Levallois-Perret, Seine, France.- Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33586. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1929. [Class 108 (iii).] The valves provided in the throttling connection between two chambers of an hydraulic shock-absorber provides adjustment of the length of the conduit as distinct from its cross section. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, flow of liquid upwards past the valve 4 in the direction indicated by the arrows is controlled by the length of the annular orifice between the cylindrical part of the valve and the opening in which it works. When the valve is screwed right down, the conical part - closes the opening entirely. Plain cylindrical and other valves may be employed, or the throttling orifice may be of helical shape as shown in Fig. 5, in which a screw thread works with some slackness in a screwed opening, the length of the helical passage depending upon the distance the plug is screwed in or out. Helical passages may be formed on the plug and work in a cylindrical opening; or a cylindrical plug may uncover more or less a helical groove in the opening.
