Abstract

367,670. Roundabouts. ROUGE, O., 29, Rue de la Sente du Goulet, Aubervilliere, Seine, and SOPHER, S., 23, Rue de Richelieu, Paris, both in France. June 4, 1931, No. 16317. [Class 132 (i).] A roundabout comprises a series of vehicles 1 each suspended by bars 2, 3 one of which is rigidly secured to one end, and the other bar 3 is articulated to the other end of the vehicle, all the bars being articulated through universal joints 15, 17 to radial arms 4, 4a supported by rollers 5 running on an undulating circular rail 6, the inner ends of the bars being articulated to a crown wheel 8. The crown wheel 8 is driven by a pinion 10 and guided by wheels 9. The bars 4, 4a are braced by stays 11, and stays 12 constrain the bars 4a to move only in a vertical direction relatively to the crown wheel 8 while the bars 4 are capable of both horizontal and vertical displacement. The bars 4, 4a are connected through springs 13 to allow limited movement relatively to one another. When at rest the vehicles hang vertically to permit passengers entering while when the crown wheel 8 is rotated, the vehicles will swing outwardly by centrifugal force and at the same time they will be given an oscillatory and swinging movement.
