Abstract
367,239. Making t u b e s ; welded joints. YOUNGSTOWN SHEET & TUBE CO., Stambaugh Building, Federal Street, Youngstown, Ohio, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Richards, S. ; R.F.D. No. 3, Youngstown, Ohio, U.S.A.) April 23, 1931, No. 12061. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1930. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv).] Dividing by a single blade.-In means for severing the burr from a welded tube seam, the tube is fed from welding rolls 4 over an adjustable guide 18, with recess 17 to house the burr, to severing discs 27 arranged offset on each side of the burr. The discs, Fig. 10, have cutting insets 50 and are mounted for rotation on thrust bearings 53. The bearings are mounted on tables hinged to a bed 8 on pins 22 and adjusted by screw 24. The shears mav be positively rotated. The shears are cleaned by resilient scrapers 36, are cooled by water jets 41, and lubricated by oil reservoirs 42. The shear A removes the burr which is deflected by a guard 37 and the other shear B trims the edge.
