Abstract
367,094. Ice-making. MARCHAUT, P. J., 7, Avenue de Ceinture, Enghien-les- Bains, Seine-et-Oise, France. Dec. 23, 1930, No. 38740. [Class 29.] Water or other liquid to be frozen is supplied to moulds 1, Fig. 1, through a pipe 3 from a tank 4 fitted with a float valve 6 adapted to shut off the supply from a pipe 7 when the moulds are just full, and means are provided for heating the supply pipe to thaw it when the frozen block is removed. The block may be ejected by a piston 8 raised by the action of a hand-lever 10 which also moves an electric contact 18 to close the circuit through a heating resistance 13 around the part of the supply pipe liable to be frozen. Heating-means in the wall of the mould or in the piston may be applied to release the piston. The ice-making drawer 19, Figs. 2 and 3, of a domestic refrigerator may be provided with a sector-shaped tray 21 formed with moulds 23, 24, 25 and adapted to be turned about a hollow pivot 22 forming a supply cock fed from a constant level tank. The opening movement of the tray serves to close contacts 27, 28 of a heating resistance around the supply pipe. In this form the blocks may be discharged by spring plungers, or by direct force, or may be removed by means of a spurred rod frozen into the liquid.
