Abstract

366,194. Packing cases. JARVIS, G., 58, Sullington Road, Shepshed, Leicestershire. Nov. 29,1930, No. 36078. [Class 18.] In a collapsable packing case of the type comprising connected side walls capable of being folded together to lie flat and two separate end closure members one of which is releasably connected to the side walls, the lower edges of the side walls are bent inwardly into a U-section 1c, Fig. 2, to receive downwardly directed flanges 3a on the edges of the bottom 3 which is located wholly within the interior of the side walls. The edges of the bottom 3 may be bent into a #-section with the outer limb constituted by the flange 3a, and this limb may be longer than the other so that the bottom 3 is raised off the floor. The top 2 has upstanding flanges 2a down over which the upper edges 16 of the side walls can be turned, and the whole may be connected together by staples, stitching, lacing, &c. Creases 8 in the side walls enable various depths of the edges 16 to be turned down to adjust the size of the case. The side walls and their lower upturned edges may be connected together by staples 5, and portions 3b, Fig. 3, are cut in the flanges 3a to accommodate the staples. The portions 3b are cut sufficiently deeply to ensure that the bottom 3 rests on the bottom of the U-section 1c and not on the staples. To enable the various folds to be made, the upper and lower portions of the corner creases of the case are slit and squares are cut out of the corners of the closure members. The various flanges preferably extend right round the case. One or more wooden boards may be positioned adjacent the top and/or bottom to reinforce the case which is of fibre &c. board. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 324,383, [Class 18, Boxes &c.].
