366,051. Setting-up cartons. FRANKS, H. J. B., 4, Cullum Street, Fenchurch Street, London. - (Assignee of Morris, W. A.; Wyoming, Ohio, U.S.A.) July 25, 1930, No. 22534. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1929. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Classes 18 and 94 (i).] Apparatus for setting-up cartons from blanks having article-supporting platforms 6, 7, Fig. 3, and closing them around the article, comprises a base 20, Figs. 1 and 4, with side members 22 between which the blank is forced by hand to bend up the panels 1, 2, 4 at right-angles to the panel 3 and plungers 26 hinged to.the base and operated from a treadle 32 to engage the platforms 6, 7 and fold them inside the panels 1, 2, 4 to engage the article 19 held therein by the operator. The plungers are hollowed out at 33, 34 to accommodate the ends of the article and when the platforms are folded in they are retained by fingers 25a on the members 22 as the plungers are returned to the horizontal position by springs 35. The flaps 11, 12, 5, panel 2 and flaps 13, 14 are then folded over in sequence by the operator, the tongues 15 are inserted into the slits 16 and the complete filled carton is then removed from the apparatus. The apparatus may be made automatic in operation and may be equipped with automatic blank-feeding and cartondelivery devices. The carton-blank is that described in Specification 363,686.
