Abstract
364,202. Stands or supports for vehicles. BOX, W. A., 3309, Blake Street, Denver, Colorado, U.S.A. Oct. 10, 1930, No. 30358. [Class 79 (iii).] A tilting runway or platform for raising motor vehicles above ground level for overhauling &c. is provided with means, for example, a pneumatic or hydraulic brake, for cushioning the rocking movement, preferably forming a positive support for the runway when it reaches the horizontal position.. The runway comprises a pair of flanged rails 13 connected at their forward ends by an angular crossbrace 14 and'provided with trunnions 18 seating in semicylindrical bearings 10 in the upper ends of hollow standards 7 secured to foundations 6 and reinforced by webs 9. One end of the runway normally rests on the ground, the other end 17 being curved to arrest the movement of the vehicle. The cushioning means comprises a dashpot 19 pivoted to a foundation plate 22, the upper end of the piston rod 25 thereof being pivoted to a bracket 27 on the cross-brace 14. The liquid may pass through orifices in the piston or through a byepass pipe 20 with a regulating valve 21. The piston rod may form a positive support for the runwav when this reaches the horizontal. It may be secured in this position by a chain 30 engaging a hook 31 on the cross-bar. A spring may be substituted for the fluid pressure cushioning means.
