Abstract
361,555. Optical sound-reproducing apparatus. DUNOYER, L. D. J. A., 48, Avenue de Neuilly, Neuilly - sur - Seine, France. Oct. 28, 1930, No. 32408. Convention date, Nov. 8, 1929. [Class 40 (ii)] Relates to apparatus for reproducing sound recorded on a film, of the kind in which an image of the filament of an electric lamp is focused on the film, preferably through a slot which is wider than the light beam. According to the invention, the lamp used comprises a bulb having a wall formed as a glass plate with optically machined parallel surfaces, so that the beam of light passing therethrough to the film is not distorted. In the construction shown, a cylindrical lamp bulb 1 contains a fine straight filament 2 stretched between two spring rods 2<1>. A plate glass cover 3, formed as described, is welded to one end of the tube 1. An outer tube 11, in which the lamp is supported, carries a lens system 4 and also a diaphragm 6 having a wide slot therein, light from the filament passing through the plate glass 3 to the lens system, by which an image of the filament is focused on the film (not shown) moving past the slot. In order that the image may be correctly positioned, transversely to the film, the lamp is adjustably mounted in the tube 1, being connected by a ball-and-socket device to a plug 9 which carries the electric terminals for the lamp, and which is adjustably held in the tube 11 by a screw 12. Four set-screws 13 project through the tube 11 and bear on the bulb 1. A rotatable ring 14 permits the lens system to be adjusted for correct focusing.
