Abstract

The ageing of rubber and the like is retarded by the addition to the mix of compounds of the general formula <FORM:0361466/V/1> where A, A1 represent mono- or di-alkylated or aralkylated amino groups, R, R1 represent aryl groups which may contain substituents such as hydroxyl, alkyl and alkoxy groups and X, Y represent either hydrogen or an alkyl hydrocarbon substituent. Many examples of such compounds are quoted and a detailed example is given with respect to 4 : 41 tetramethyldiaminodiphenylmethane. The antiagers may be used to impregnate vulcanized rubber, by use with a solvent or in vapour form, the amount used being 1-5 per cent by weight on the rubber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of a material of the general formula A-R-Z-R1-A1 where A, A1 represent amino groups, alkylated, or aralkylated amino groups, R, R1 represent aryl residues and Z represents a divalent aliphatic radical which may carry an aryl group or groups as substituents, the preferred form being 4 : 41 diaminodiphenylmethane. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
