Abstract

Water which has been treated with lime to remove carbonate hardness is further treated with a substance insoluble in water which will form only insoluble compounds with the excess lime. Hydrous silicic acid and silicic acid compounds and dibasic phosphoric compounds are suitable substances. The insoluble compound precipitated is removed by filtration.
