360,764. Loose-leaf binders. MOORE'S MODERN METHODS, Ltd. and MOORE, B., 12, St. Bride Street, London. Feb. 5, 1931, No. 3691. [Class 146 (i).] In a loose-leaf binder of the kind wherein a metal back member has hinged to it hollow intermediate members to which covers are hinged, one of the intermediate members carrying leaf-posts and the other provided with apertures and locking- mechanism within it for the leafposts, one of the intermediate members is builtup from two plates h a v i n g parts which are caused to engage and interlock by relative longitudinal movement between the plates and then constitute hinge-sockets whereby the intermediate member can be connected to the back member. A metal back member A of dishedform, having along each of its longitudinal edges spaced hinge-sockets A<1>, A<2>, has hinged to it a trough-like member B having spaced hollow lugs B<1> on its two edges, and a cover-plate B<2> having correspondingly spaced sockets B<3>, the lugs and sockets being moved into engagement with each other by relative longitudinal movement between the plates B, B<2>. Within the hollow member B, B<2> is a supporting-plate for leaf-posts C<1> which extend through holes in the plate B and have notched ends C<2>. The hollow lugs B<1> lying within the sockets B<3> at one side of the member B, B<2> constitute hinge-sockets lying between the hingesockets A<1>, A<2> on the back member A and are hinged to the latter by a pin D. The other hinged intermediate member is similarly built-up and hinged, and comprises a trough-like plate E with hollow lugs E<1> and a cover-plate E2 with hollow sockets E<3>. Within the member E, E<2> is a slidable locking-bar F having raised portions F<1> lying adjacent to holes E<4> in the wall of the trough-like plate E through which pass the notched ends C<2> of the leaf-posts C<1>. The raised portions F<1> are slotted at F<2> so that when the ends of the leafposts have passed through the slots, the slidable locking-bar F will move under the action of a spring F<3> to engage the notches on the posts. A part F<4> on the locking-bar extends through a slot E<5> in the plate E whereby the locking-bar can be moved against the action of the spring F<3> to release the ends of the leaf-posts. A follower comprising a pair of posts G mounted upon'a connecting-bar G<1> which is perforated to engage the upper ends of the leaf-posts C<1> is provided, and the ends of the posts G may engage holes in the face of the plate B. Metal covers or metal flaps for supporting cardboard or other covers are preferably hinged to the free edges of the intermediate members, the tubular lugs B<1>, E<1> acting as hinge-sockets. The end portions A<3> of the back member A are rolled to reduce the risk of the binder scratching articles on which it may rest.
