[Class 87 (ii).] Medicinal capsules &c. are made in a machine comprising opposed synchronously-driven mechanisms for making respectively the bodies and caps, means being provided for simultaneously joining caps produced in one mechanism with bodies produced in the other. The bodies and caps may be of different materials. In Fig. 2 a pin P on which the capsules are formed is shown within a greasing cup G, prior to being dipped in a bath of gelatin M, Fig. 3. The pins are operated in groups and remain in the bath a sufficient length of time for the gelatin to collect thereon. From the greasing and dipping units A, B, Fig. 1, the pins are raised by an elevating and whirling gear to a drying unit C. An air-circulating drier-unit H is shown in Fig. 5 with the pins P passing through. Bars of pins then pass to the unit D which feeds single bars on their sides to the unit E for stripping, cutting, and capping. The dried capsules are stripped from the pins into holders K, Fig. 8, and then revolved rapidly against knives N, Fig. 7. The holders K then move inwardly towards other holders K, Fig. 8, containing the bodies of the capsules, and place the caps thereon. During the capping movement the completed capsules are ejected from the holders and dropped on to a conveyer. After the capsule parts have been stripped from the pins, the bars of pins are moved out of the stripping unit to the greasing unit for regreasing preparatory to repeating the operation. In the stripping operation the pins P are embraced by fingers F which are moved lengthwise of the pins to push the capsules into the holders K. After the stripping operation the fingers F are opened by a cam bar O.
