Abstract
360,059. Insulators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, POLLOCK, A. A., Croxton House, Leamington Spa, and ADAMS, W. S., 117, Claremont Road, Rugby. Aug. 5, 1930, No. 23456. [Class 36.] In order to attach a bushing insulator to a support, the insulator is formed with a bulbous portion which is engaged, with the interposition of flexible packing, by a rigid clamping ring, or the clamping ring itself may be made flexible, no packing being used. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, an insulating bushing a is formed with a bulbous portion which is secured to a support e with interposed packing f, by a rigid clamping ring b attached to the support e by bolts d. Flexible packing c, which may consist of a flattened helical spring, is interposed between the bushing a and the ring b. The clamping ring b is formed with spaced seatings g for the heads of the bolts d. In the construction of Fig. 5, the clamping ring b is made resilient and directly engages the bulbous portion of the insulator a, being held at its outer edge between supporting rings h, k. The ring h may have a down-turned flange l as shown, or may be of plain annular form. The clamping rings b may be made flexible by slotting the edges or by slotting the inner edges only. In forming the ring b, strip metal is slotted and then bent to circular shape so that the inner tongued portion of the ring is adapted to engage the bulbous portion of the insulator a.
