Abstract
359,082. Printing-machines. ADDRESSOGRAPH, Ltd., Grange Road, Willesden Green, London.-(Addressograph Ges. ; 99, Ritterstrasse, Berlin.) July 31, 1930, No. 23155. [Class 100 (ii).] Addressing and like machines; stopping, starting, tripping, and like arrangements.-An addressing or like series-printing machine is provided with electrical control-mechanism co-operating with tabs &c. on the printing-devices to control the impression and the main drive, the two controlling operations being adapted to function separately or simultaneously and being actuated from the same or from different tabs. As shown applied to a machine of the type in which address-plates 7 are moved along a guideway 5 into printing position beneath a platen 8 carried by a rocking arm 9, - the movement of the platen and the machine drive are controlled by means of electromagnets 57, 44 respectively, the energization of the magnets being controlled by tabs T on the plates 7. The magnet 57 is adapted to attract an armature 55 so as to release a dog 53 fixed to a shaft 48 which turns clockwise end removes a roller arm 49 from the path of a block 51 on the end of a reciprocating .bar 14 whereby, during the forward stroke of the bar, a notch 13 therein drops into engagement with a pin 12 on the arm 9 which performs.a printing operation; during the return stroke, the bar 14 returns the arm 49 to normal position, and a lever 59 holds down the dog 53 pending the return of the armature 55. The bar 14 ism pivoted to a rocker 15 actuated bv a rod 19 corinected to a crank 21 fixed on a pulley 23 rotated from a main shaft 26 driven by a rotary pulley 27 carrying a pivoted pawl 32 engaging a notch in a collar 29 fixed on the shaft 26. The magnet 44 when energized attracts an armature 40 so as to release a bell crank 35 which is moved by a spring 46 into the path of the pawl 32 whereby the drive is disconnected; the crank 35 is returned to normal position manually by means of a rod 47. The impression is controlled by a number of parallel circuits in series with a battery 66 and the magnet 57, each circuit including one of a number of contacts a<2> .. a<5> and a corresponding control switch c<2> .. c<5>, and each contact being closed by a pivoted detector 62 when engaged by a tab T. The main drive is controlled by an additional contact a<1> arranged in series with the battery 66 and with the magnet 44. In a modification, the contact a<1> is arranged, in addition, in a circuit which is in parallel with the other'circuits and includes a switch, whereby the contact may, if desired, control the impression in addition to the drive. In a further modification, each. of the contacts a<1> .. a<5> is, in addition, connected through a switch to the magnet 44 so that'any one of the contacts may be used for controlling either the impression or the drive. According to the Provisional Specification, the control mechanism may be mechanical instead of electrical.
