[Class 74 (i).] The bobbin carrier has a toothed base 2 and the let-off device comprises a vertical bar 19 upon which is mounted a sliding member 23 with a projection 3 which engages the teeth 54 upon the base and can be lifted clear of the teeth when the thread becomes tensioned. The thread is led from the bobbin B to an eve 18 upon the bar 19, under a hook 25 on the slider 23 to a frictional tensioning means comprising a fixed jaw 35 and a jaw 36 actuated by a lever 40 through the end 42 of which the thread is guided. To prevent breakage due to centrifugal force the plate 20 carrying the vertical bar 19 is mounted upon a tube 10 which is secured to the head 6 by a spring 13 ; upon the bobbin rotating faster than is necessary to provide the necessary thread, the projection 23 is lowered to engage the teeth 54 and the plate 20 and bar 19 are rotated against the action of the spring 13, and are thereafter restored to normal. position by the spring 13. A stop motion or an alarm actuated as described in Specifications 277,947 and 294,669, [both in Class 74 (i), Braid &c.], may be provided.
