Abstract
358,293. Automatic exchange switches. COVENTRY AUTOMATIC TELEPHONES, Ltd. and PUCKETTE, C. C., of General Electric Co., Stoke, Coventry. Oct. 15, 1930, No. 30844. Grant of Patent opposed. [Class 40 (iv).] In a rotary stepping switch having wiper sets each comprising a number of angularly-spaced electrically-connected wipers engaging different rows of contacts to give increased capacity, the wipers of a set are connected to a common collecting ring. Constructions of feed brushes, shaft mountings, and position indicators are also described. A wiper set may comprise a pair of wipers 10, 11 mounted at 180‹ on the shaft 14 and connected by collecting ring 12 against which rests the feed brush 25. The feed brushes have looped ends to form tags and bent end portions which engage a groove 31 in the mounting 30 to prevent twisting, the mounting being in two parts connected by screws 32. The shaft 14 is secured at one or both ends, to prevent vibration and rotation, by a slotted plate 16 engaging grooves 15 in the shaft. The plate 16 is secured to the switch frame by a screw 20 and its end 17 may serve as a position indicator in conjunction with a numbered disc 18 on the shaft 14. The Provisional Specification describes also a ratchet drive in which the detent engages the tooth next but one ahead of the driving pawl which, if moved forward an excessive distance, rides up the detent so that the taking up of more than one tooth at a time is prevented. Specification 255,657, [Class 40 (iv), Telephones &c.], is referred to.
