Abstract
357,963. Automatic guns. FARRER, J. 0., 27, Chancery Lane, London. June 25, 1930, No. 19379. [Class 92 (ii).] Relates to guns of the long-recoil type in which the barrel A, barrel-extension D and breech-block B recoil together for a distance greater than the length of the cartridge case but less than the length of a live cartridge, the breech-block being unlocked by a rocking-bolt 30 and retained by a catch 2 whilst the barrel and barrel-extension are returned by the spring F. According to the invention, a rocking ejector 10 on the barrel-extension has one projection 13 for ejecting the spent case and a second projection 14 for ejecting a live cartridge during unloading when it is necessary to give an increased rearward movement to the breech-block. A toe 15 on the ejector rides on a fixed surface 5 to move the projection 13 temporarily to an inoperative position when ejecting the live cartridge. The locking-bolt is operated for unlocking and locking respectively by fixed inclines 7, 7<1> and a fresh cartridge C<1> is inserted from the side as shown in plan in Fig. 3A, by a rocking arm 20 operated in one direction by an incline on the barrel-extension and in the reverse or loading direction by a projection 1 on the breech-block.
