Abstract

356,258. Synchronous movements. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London, and MADDOCK, A. J., 34, Regent Place, Rugby. June 5, 1930, No. 17459. [Class 40 (iii).] Incoming synchronizing impulses produce current impulses from a direct-current source 6 to energize the driving coil or coils 7 of a phonic wheel 1, which rotates the body to be synchronized. The coils 7 and the source 6 are in the anode circuit of a gas-filled discharge device 2, described in Specification 346,957, the control electrode 4 of which is maintained at negative potential, sufficient to prevent current flowing through the discharge device, by causing television signals to produce a voltage drop across a resistance 8. During the signal interruption at the end of each scanning-line, the control electrode regains a value sufficient to initiate a current flow through the discharge device. A rotary interrupter 14, driven by the phonic wheel, connects the anode 5 to the cathode 3 at periods so phased that the control electrode regains control over the discharge in the interval between successive synchronizing impulses. Initial phase correction is effected by adjusting the driving coils and the stationary element of the interrupter.
