Abstract

355,917. Electric horns. BOSCH AKT.-GES., R., 4, Militõrstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany. Aug. 2, 1930, No. 23315. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1929. [Class 13.] Relates to an electromagnetic horn, more particularly for motor vehicles, in which an armature secured to a diaphragm and free of any guide is subjected to a magnetic pull in the direction of the axis of the diaphragm and consists in an arrangement i n which the flux passing into the armature at its end remote from the diaphragm passes out of it into a yoke to close the flux path, the yoke having a web portion which lies considerably nearer the diaphragm than the end of the armature. As shown, a diaphragm c is clamped between the two parts a, b of a casing and has a corrugated metal disc e and cylindrical armature f secured to its centre by a unit d. The end of the armature is preferably disposed at a distance from the diaphragm at least equal to one-sixth of the diameter of the diaphragm and its cross section at the most should be one-third of the diameter of the diaphragm whilst the seat of the armature attachment of the diaphragm is at least one-sixth of the diameter of the diaphragm. During operation the outer end of the armature strikes against the end of a magnet core g which is surrounded by a coil h and is riveted together with an iron disc i to the casing lid a. Radial longitudinal slots k are provided in the armature f and core g so as to reduce eddy current losses. The iron path from the core to the armature is completed by a yoke member l which is welded to the lid a and is provided with a central opening for the passage of the armature and a lateral recess for an interrupter spring m. The armature has an annular groove n where it passes through the yoke l and the part lying between this groove and the diaphragm is increased in diameter to form a flange which operates the interrupter spring m. If desired, the parts may be so adjusted that no actual striking occurs between the armature and core.
