Abstract
355,625. Surface condensers. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.- (Ingersoll-Rand Co. ; 15, Exchange Place, Jersey City, New Jersey, U.S.A.) Dec. 23, 1930, No. 38676. [Class 64 (iii).] The condenser A is divided by tube-plates into compartments 21 .. 24 with separate air outlets 26 .. 29 connected with exhausters operating in series. There is at least one more exhauster in the series connected with the coolest compartment 21, than in the series connected with the other compartments so that a higher vacuum is maintained in order to equalize the depth of steam penetration. As shown, air &c. from the compartment 21 passes to a cooler B, intercondensers C, D, and after-condenser E, the pressure being raised to atmospheric in three stages by steamjet ejectors 60, 66, 79. Air &c. from the compartments 22, 23, 24 passes through a cooler F, the inter-condenser D and the after-condenser E, the pressure being raised in two stages. The cooler F and condensers D, E, are each divided into two sections, the left-hand section serving the compartment 22 and the right-hand section the compartments 23, 24; air &c. from the intercondenser C also passes through the left-hand sections of D, E. Raw cooling-water is used in B, C, F, and in the lower tubes of the inter-condenser D, whilst condensate from the outlet 25 of the main condenser is passed through E and through the upper tubes of D. A throttle 30 is provided on the outlet 29 of the compartment 24, in order to equalize the steam penetration in compartments 23, 24.
