353,290. Peeling vegetables. WEIBEL, A., Spiez, Switzerland. Aug. 21, 1930, No. 25069. Convention date, Aug. 22, 1929. [Class 28 (ii).] A peeling-device for vegetable tubers, as shown in plan in the Figure, consists of cradles 13, carrying two-edged knives 15 and rockable by the reversal of the movement of the tuber in its reciprocations so that peeling cuts are effected in both directions. The tuber is held between spiked members 21, 22 which are reciprocated by means not shown, and the member 21 is rotated intermittently to present different surfaces of the tuber to the peeling-knives. The cradles 13 are pivoted at 18 to levers 17 which are themselves pivoted at 16 to the forked ends of arms 7 which are pivoted to supports 5 associated with spring-pressed forks 9 which tend to retain the arms 7 in the central positions but allow them to swing to accommodate tubers of different diameters. The movements of the cradles 13 on the arms 7 are limited by resilient stops 19. Two, four or six knife cradles may be arranged around the tuber.
