352,694. Helical springs; buffers. TURTON, PLATTS & CO., Ltd., G., Meadow Hall Road Works, Wincobank, Sheffield, and HEWITT, F., Green Lawn, Green Lane, Dronfield, near Sheffield. June 19, 1930, No. 18779. [Classes 103 (v) and 108 (iii).] In apparatus in which two or more helical compression springs of different lengths come into action in succession, one end of the longer spring secures in position the corresponding end of the shorter spring. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the two shorter and inner springs f, b are secured in position against an endplate, not shown, by the outer spring a. In the application to a railway buffer shown in Fig. 7, the short inner spring b is secured at its end r by a ring q on which the outer spring a bears. Various other methods of securing the shorter spring in position are illustrated. The shorter springs may be arranged outside the longer springs.
